Amazing Footage Of Deep-Sea SiphonophoreReading time: 1
This video shows footage of a deep-sea colonial organism known as a siphonophore. The footage was captured as it drifted past the camera of the Nautilus live ROV Hercules during their 2014 deep-sea expedition.
Siphonophores are an order of the Hydrozoa, a class of marine animals belonging to the phylum Cnidaria; a phylum which is also host to true jellyfish, box jellyfish and coral. Although this siphonophore appears to be a single organism, it is actually a colony composed of many individual animals known as zooids. The most famous species of siphonophore is the deadly Portugese Man O’ War.
